Manor House PACT

Past project

Manor House PACT: Prepare, Adapt, Connect, Thrive

LSx worked in partnership with Manor House Development Trust to deliver the Manor House PACT project, Whilst LSx no longer work on the project; the project is still very busy  training and community-building with a raft of activities thanks to £1m from The Big Lottery Fund. The aim of the project is to build momentum and increase the resilience and capacity of local communities to take control of their own lives, their homes and their neighbourhood, and enable them to live more sustainably in the face of climate change.

PACT will enable individuals and communities in the Manor House area in Hackney to build collective resilience using the principles of Prepare, Adapt, Connect and Thrive. It will target households in the area who are most vulnerable to the effects of climate change such as: children; the elderly; disabled people and people with long-term illnesses.

It will also support:

•Fuel-poor households, most likely those on low incomes in inefficient homes

•Young people not in employment, education or training (NEETs)

•Residents who don't think they can influence local decision making

PACT developed three strands and LSx is delivering parts of PACT Home.

• PACT Home

• PACT Open Spaces

• PACT Green Vocational Training

PACT Home - Better Neighbourhoods

PACT Home - Better Neighbourhoods is a research project designed to improve access to resources for residents most vulnerable to fuel poverty and extreme weather (including older people, families with young children and babies) while also inspiring and supporting resident collaboration in terms of understanding, adapting and mitigating.

Better Neighbourhoods will identify vulnerable households, as well as train local professionals to better respond to climate change issues. PACT Better Neighbourhoods will share research findings with the PACT partners, PACT Champions and the wider Haringey and Hackney communities.

LSx will coordinate the training, fieldwork and recommendations with the assistance of the University of Greenwich through Citizen Science workshops and a fieldwork programme.

PACT Home - Cleaner Air 4 Manor House Schools

LSx  delivered a focused campaign to the schools empowering parents, teachers, pupils and governors to better understand air pollution using citizen science methods and supporting them to educate others on the problem of air pollution.

•Air Quality Teams was formed at each participating school, comprising students, parents, teachers and school governors. Each team will be given social-marketing skills to educate others and influence behaviour.

•Citizen Science Air Quality Teams were trained to use equipment such as diffusion tubes, ghost wipes and lichen observation to measure pollution levels, and lessons are linked to the school curriculum

•Peer-to-peer social marketing Air Quality Teams  promoted awareness using materials such as self-designed posters, badges and stickers

PACT Home - Monitoring and evaluation

LSx is passionate about monitoring, evaluation and programme learning. That’s why as part of PACT we:

•Ensured project monitoring and evaluation generates meaningful stories of change and impact

•Supported local partners with our monitoring expertise to ensure it’s fast and accurate

•Helped  the partnership to communicate and celebrate stories
